Douglas County Offices to Close Monday for Labor Day

Douglas County government offices will close Monday, Sept. 7, for Labor Day. County museums, parks, campgrounds, boat ramps, Salmon Harbor Marina and Winchester Bay RV Park will remain open.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. - Douglas County government offices will be closed to the public Monday, Sept. 7, in observance of Labor Day.

The closure includes offices in the Douglas County Courthouse and Justice Building in Roseburg, the Douglas County Courthouse Annex in Reedsport, the Douglas County Fairgrounds Office, county landfill and transfer sites, and other external county government offices.

Although offices will be closed, some county officials and employees will continue working on routine, special or emergency assignments. That includes personnel from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Juvenile Department, Public Works Department, Emergency Management Department, Parks Department and Salmon Harbor Marina.

Several county-operated attractions and recreational facilities will remain available during the holiday:

The Douglas County Museum of History and Natural History in Roseburg and Umpqua River Lighthouse Museum in Winchester Bay will be open to visitors.
Douglas County parks, campgrounds and boat ramps will remain open and accessible.
Salmon Harbor Marina and Winchester Bay RV Park will continue operating.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office lobby will be closed Monday, but deputies, 911 communications personnel and other staff will continue providing law enforcement and emergency services. Residents should call 911 for emergencies or 541-440-4471 for non-emergency dispatch.

County officials encouraged residents traveling, camping or attending gatherings during the holiday weekend to monitor road, weather and air-quality conditions and take appropriate safety precautions.

Labor Day recognizes the contributions of American workers and the labor movement. Oregon became the first state to establish Labor Day as an official holiday when legislation was signed into law on Feb. 21, 1887. It became a federal holiday in 1894.
