Cooler Weather, Rain and Possible Thunderstorms Expected in Roseburg Saturday

ROSEBURG, Ore. - A sharp change in the weather is expected this weekend as a low-pressure system brings cooler temperatures, widespread showers and a chance of thunderstorms to Southern Oregon.

Roseburg is expected to reach about 76 degrees Friday under gradually clearing skies. Clouds will increase overnight as the approaching system moves south along the Pacific Northwest coast.

Showers are likely in Roseburg on Saturday, with a chance of thunderstorms developing during the afternoon. The National Weather Service forecasts a high near 68 degrees, about 10 to 15 degrees below normal for this time of year.

Forecasters place the chance of precipitation in Roseburg at 60% during the day Saturday and 80% Saturday night. Rainfall totals between one-quarter and one-half inch are possible, although thunderstorms could produce higher amounts.

Across Douglas County, the chance of thunderstorms is estimated at 15% to 20%. Any thunderstorms that develop could bring brief periods of heavier rain.

Saturday night is expected to remain wet, with showers and a possible thunderstorm continuing as temperatures fall to around 51 degrees.

Conditions should improve Sunday as the low-pressure system moves east. Roseburg is forecast to become mostly sunny with a high near 70 degrees. A few light showers could linger Sunday morning in the Southern Oregon Cascades and coastal mountains.

Areas east of the Cascades and in the Shasta Valley could experience wind gusts between 30 and 40 mph Saturday afternoon and evening. Increasing humidity should help reduce the fire-weather concerns associated with those winds.

Temperatures are expected to begin warming Monday, reaching near or above seasonal averages by the middle of next week.
