City And County Revoke Occupancy At Budget 16 Motel Over Unsafe Conditions

ROSEBURG, Ore. - The City of Roseburg and Douglas County Building Department have revoked occupancy at the Budget 16 Motel, 1067 NE Stephens St, in Roseburg, citing unsafe conditions that violate public health and safety requirements.

Notices are posted on every door at the facility, and all residents had to move out.

Two notices dated Sept. 29, 2026, identify the property at 1067 NE Stephens St. One, issued by the Douglas County Building Department, orders “STOP ALL WORK” and directs the recipient to contact the department within 10 days. It also states, “DO NOT OCCUPY THIS STRUCTURE,” and says the order must remain posted until its removal is authorized by the building official.

The second notice, marked “DANGER,” states, “THIS BUILDING IS DEEMED UNSAFE FOR HUMAN OCCUPANCY.” It identifies the City of Roseburg as the issuing authority and warns that anyone removing the sign without authorization will be prosecuted.

In an official statement provided to The Roseburg Receiver, the city said officials hope the property owner will obtain the appropriate permits and correct the deficiencies.

The statement did not identify the specific unsafe conditions, detail the repairs needed, or provide a timeline for when occupancy could be restored.

City and county officials said they could provide no further comment because of possible litigation.
