Angela Marx Named Executive Director of Umpqua Valley Arts
Umpqua Valley Arts has named Angela Marx as executive director following a competitive search. Marx previously served as interim director and brings extensive leadership, financial and operational experience to the role.
ROSEBURG, Ore. - Umpqua Valley Arts has named Angela Marx as its new executive director following a competitive recruitment process that considered candidates from both within and outside the organization.
Marx officially stepped into the role July 13 after serving as interim executive director during a period of transition for the nonprofit arts center. In that position, she led staff, managed day-to-day operations and helped guide the organization through the 2026 Summer Arts Festival.
The Umpqua Valley Arts Board of Directors unanimously selected Marx, pointing to her professionalism, institutional knowledge and commitment to the organization’s mission. Board members also highlighted her experience in financial and operational management, along with what they described as an entrepreneurial approach to leadership.
“Angela has earned the confidence of the Board through her leadership, integrity, and ability to guide the organization during a pivotal time,” the Board said in a joint statement. “Her dedication to our mission, her collaborative approach, and her vision for the future make her exceptionally well suited to lead Umpqua Valley Arts.”
Marx joined Umpqua Valley Arts in 2025, initially working in event management. Before that, she spent 19 years with the YMCA of Douglas County, most recently serving as director of health and wellness.
During her time at the YMCA, Marx supervised staff and volunteers, managed budgets, developed community partnerships and oversaw programs serving people throughout Douglas County.
She has also owned businesses in the construction services, event and catering industries. Those roles provided experience in budgeting, payroll, project coordination, regulatory compliance and administrative management.
As executive director, Marx will oversee the organization’s strategic direction, fundraising efforts, finances, educational programs, exhibitions, memberships and community partnerships. She will also help guide the continued development of the annual Summer Arts Festival.
Founded in 1971, Umpqua Valley Arts is a nonprofit community arts center that offers exhibitions, arts education, public programming and community events throughout Douglas County.
