Umpqua National Forest Lifts Public Use Restrictions Following Rainfall
Umpqua National Forest will lower its fire danger level from High to Moderate and lift Stage 2 Public Use Restrictions beginning Sept. 11. Campfires in wilderness and dispersed areas will again be allowed, along with personal chainsaw use.
ROSEBURG, Ore. - Umpqua National Forest officials are lowering the forest’s fire danger level and lifting public use restrictions following recent rainfall.
Effective at 12:01 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, the fire danger level will decrease from High to Moderate. Stage 2 Public Use Restrictions will also be lifted, leaving no public use restrictions in place across the forest.
Officials said the rainfall improved moisture conditions throughout Umpqua National Forest.
With the restrictions lifted, campfires will once again be allowed in wilderness areas and at dispersed campsites. Personal chainsaw use will also be permitted at any time, subject to applicable regulations.
Although conditions have improved, visitors are reminded that wildfires can still start and spread under moderate fire danger conditions. Anyone using a campfire should make sure it is completely extinguished before leaving the site.
Forest officials recommend drowning the fire with water, stirring the ashes and checking the area with the back of a hand. The remains should feel cold to the touch before the campsite is left unattended.
