Umpqua National Forest to Lift Emigrant Fire Emergency Closure
Umpqua National Forest will lift the Emigrant Fire Emergency Closure on Friday, reopening trails like Upper Lemolo Falls and Skipper Lakes. Roads 2610 and 6000-700 remain closed. A related closure is still in effect on the Willamette National Forest.
Migrating Vaux’s Swifts Return to Roseburg; “Swift Watch” Back On
Migrating Vaux’s Swifts have returned to Roseburg, with about 1,000 roosting at the Clay Place chimney in Fir Grove Park. The Umpqua Valley Audubon Society will host free “Swift Watch” events Sept. 19 & 26 at 6:30 p.m., offering a chance to witness the spectacle at sunset.
DFPA Raises Fire Danger Level to High Starting Sept. 23
DFPA will raise fire danger to HIGH on Sept. 23. Public Use Restrictions increase: power saws, mowing cured grass, welding, and metal cutting are only allowed before 10 a.m. or after 8 p.m. Industrial Fire Precaution Level remains at IFPL II.
Roseburg Fire Department to Issue Residential Burn Permits in October
Roseburg Fire Department will issue residential burn permits Oct. 1–31. Permits cost $75, valid for 7 days, and allow yard waste only. Fires must be attended, out before dark, and burn barrels are banned. Apply weekdays at 541-492-6770 or online at cityofroseburg.org/departments/fire/burn-permits.
DFPA Confirms Six Prescribed Burns Scheduled This Week
DFPA has six prescribed burns scheduled this week: Sept. 16 in Oakland & Roseburg, Sept. 17 in Oakland & Roseburg, Sept. 18 on N. Umpqua Hwy in Roseburg, and Sept. 20 on Roberts Creek Rd in Roseburg. Burns aim to reduce wildfire risk under safe conditions.
