State Panel To Consider 45 MPH Speed Zone On Del Rio Road

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. - A state panel will consider Douglas County’s request to establish a 45 mph speed zone along a portion of Del Rio Road west of Roseburg.

The Oregon Speed Zone Review Panel will hear the case during a public meeting beginning at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 10. The Del Rio Road discussion is scheduled to begin at 8:35 a.m.

The proposed speed zone would extend from 450 feet west of Brozio Road to 150 feet west of Bourbon Street.

The case was referred to the panel because Douglas County and the Oregon Department of Transportation did not reach an agreement on the speed zone. ODOT investigates proposed speed-zone changes at the request of the agency responsible for the road. When ODOT and the local road authority cannot agree, the panel makes the final decision.

ODOT’s announcement does not specify the current posted speed along the affected section, what speed the agency recommended or why the county requested the 45 mph designation.

The panel will hear presentations from ODOT and Douglas County, along with public testimony, before deliberating and voting. Approximately 55 minutes has been reserved for the Del Rio Road case.

Members of the public may attend through Microsoft Teams or call 971-277-1965 and enter conference ID 420 096 468#.

The five-member panel includes representatives from the Governor’s Transportation Safety Committee, Oregon State Police, Association of Oregon Counties, League of Oregon Cities and ODOT.

More information and meeting documents are available through ODOT’s Speed Zone Review Panel page
