Salem Woman Killed In Single-Vehicle Crash On I-5 Near Canyonville

A Salem woman was killed Thursday evening in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 near Canyonville, according to Oregon State Police. The vehicle left the roadway near milepost 95, struck a tree, went down a riverbank and caught fire.

A 25-year-old Salem woman died Thursday evening in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 near Canyonville, according to Oregon State Police.

Troopers responded to the crash around 6 p.m. on April 2 near milepost 95 in Douglas County. Police said a silver BMW 320, driven by Siayrah Jade Steeley, 25, of Salem, was traveling southbound on I-5 when it left the roadway for unknown reasons near the milepost 95 offramp.

According to investigators, the vehicle traveled about 400 feet along the grassy shoulder before striking a tree. The BMW then continued another 40 feet down the riverbank, where it came to rest and caught fire.

Steeley was pronounced dead at the scene. OSP said the highway was not impacted during the on-scene investigation.
