ROSEBURG, Ore. — After a seasonal shutdown, a major water system improvement project in southeast Roseburg is moving forward again.

Beginning Monday, Feb. 23, crews will return to SE Pine Street, focusing on the stretch between Oak and Sykes avenues. The effort centers on upgrading roughly 3,200 feet of underground water line, increasing pipe size from 6 inches to 8 inches to modernize the system.

The project originally started in September but was paused during the winter months due to weather limitations. Public Works Director Ryan Herinckx said work is expected to continue through the spring, with completion projected in early summer.

Beyond the main line replacement, the city plans to:

  • Install six new fire hydrants
  • Replace approximately 70 individual water service connections
  • Complete additional mid-block water main upgrades on SE Mosher and SE Cass avenues between Pine and Stephens streets

NorthCore USA of Albany is the contractor handling the improvements. Work hours will run weekdays from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The pipes being replaced date back to installations from 1938 to 1962, meaning some segments are more than six decades old.

Motorists should expect a single-lane closure on Pine Street within the construction zone during active work hours. Drivers are encouraged to use caution while traveling through the area.
