Roseburg Man Arrested on Kidnapping, Strangulation and Burglary Charges
A Roseburg man was arrested Sunday after police said he carried a woman into a residence against her will and restricted her breathing. He faces kidnapping, felony strangulation, assault, burglary and release agreement violation charges.
ROSEBURG, Ore. - A Roseburg man was arrested Sunday evening after police said he carried a woman into a residence against her will and prevented her from calling for help.
Roseburg police responded around 7 p.m. Sept. 7 to a home in the 400 block of Northeast Winchester Street following a reported violation of a no-contact release agreement.
While officers were responding, dispatch confirmed that the agreement prohibited 48-year-old Joshua David Hansen from contacting the 73-year-old woman, according to a Roseburg Police Department report.
Police said a witness reported seeing Hansen grab the woman and carry her into the residence. As officers approached the front door, they reportedly heard raised voices and a loud thump coming from inside.
After receiving no response while knocking, officers forced their way into the home. Police said they found the woman visibly distraught. She told officers Hansen was hiding in a back bedroom.
Hansen was found under a blanket and detained without incident, according to police.
The woman told officers Hansen carried her into the residence against her will. When she attempted to yell for help, Hansen allegedly covered her mouth and restricted her breathing. Police said she also reported substantial pain from being grabbed and carried.
Hansen was lodged at Douglas County Corrections on charges of second-degree kidnapping, felony strangulation, fourth-degree assault, first-degree burglary and violating a release agreement.
The charges are allegations. Hansen is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
