Pedestrian Killed in Late-Night Collision on Diamond Lake Boulevard
A pedestrian was killed late Saturday after being struck by a vehicle on Diamond Lake Boulevard in Roseburg. Police said the driver was not injured, is cooperating and the collision does not currently appear criminal in nature.
ROSEBURG, Ore. - A pedestrian was killed Saturday night after being struck by a vehicle on Diamond Lake Boulevard in Roseburg.
Roseburg police said officers and emergency crews responded at approximately 11:42 p.m. July 18 to a reported vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision east of Northeast Pomona Street.
Shortly before the crash, law enforcement had received reports of a woman wearing dark clothing standing in the median, waving her arms and reportedly moving into traffic in front of passing vehicles.
A preliminary investigation found that a white Jeep Cherokee driven by 19-year-old Ryan Mays Jr. was traveling westbound in the inside lane when it struck the woman.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been released pending confirmation of her identity and notification of her family.
Mays was not injured and is cooperating with investigators. Police said the collision does not currently appear to be criminal in nature, though the investigation remains ongoing.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police, Roseburg Fire Department and Umpqua Valley Ambulance assisted at the scene.
