Oregon Flags Lowered to Half-Staff in Remembrance of September 11 Attacks
Flags at Oregon public institutions are being flown at half-staff from sunrise until sunset September 11 as the nation marks 25 years since the terrorist attacks that killed nearly 3,000 civilians and first responders.
SALEM, Ore. - Flags at Oregon public institutions are being flown at half-staff from sunrise until sunset Friday, September 11, in remembrance of the victims of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Governor Tina Kotek issued the order as the nation observes the 25th anniversary of the attacks, which killed nearly 3,000 civilians and first responders.
“Today marks 25 years since the horrifying events of September 11th, a day that changed our country and the lives of so many Americans,” Kotek said. “As we observe the lowering of our nation’s flag, we remember those who lost their lives and support the loved ones who continue to carry that loss.”
Kotek also recognized the first responders and others who helped in the immediate aftermath of the attacks.
“We honor the courage and selflessness of the first responders and all those who stepped forward to help when the moment needed them,” Kotek said. “Let’s carry the spirit of courage and community forward and find strength in unity over division.”
