Roseburg Records Nearly Half an Inch of Rain Sunday as Wet, Cooler Weather Continues This Week
ROSEBURG, Ore. - After several weeks of predominantly dry weather, Roseburg received nearly half an inch of rain Sunday, Oct. 25, as a series of weather systems began moving through Southern Oregon. More rainfall is expected Monday and Tuesday, with cooler temperatures and additional chances for showers continuing into the weekend.
According to preliminary National Weather Service climate data, Roseburg recorded 0.47 inches of precipitation Sunday, making it the first day of the month with measurable rainfall beyond a trace at the reporting station.
The rainfall follows an unusually warm stretch earlier in October. Temperatures in Roseburg reached 89 degrees on Oct. 16, well above normal for the season. Just over a week later, the area is experiencing a noticeably different weather pattern, with afternoon temperatures expected to remain in the upper 50s for much of the coming week.
The National Weather Service in Medford said a persistent area of low pressure over the Pacific Northwest will bring seasonably active weather through at least Saturday, although widespread significant impacts are not anticipated.
More Rain Expected Monday and Tuesday
Rain will remain the primary weather concern in Roseburg as the new week begins.
The National Weather Service forecasts rain mainly before 5 p.m. Monday, with a high temperature near 59 degrees. Southwest winds of 5 to 9 mph are expected, and the chance of precipitation is 80%.
Rain is likely to return Monday evening, mainly after 5 p.m., with overnight temperatures falling to around 43 degrees. The chance of precipitation is 60%.
Tuesday will bring another round of rainfall, primarily before 2 p.m. The chance of precipitation is 80%, although additional rainfall amounts are expected to be relatively light, with less than a tenth of an inch possible during the daytime period.
Tuesday's high is expected to reach approximately 59 degrees before temperatures fall to around 38 degrees overnight.
The National Weather Service's longer-range precipitation outlook also shows a 100% probability that Roseburg will receive more than one-tenth of an inch of precipitation during the 24-hour period ending Monday afternoon, followed by a 60% probability for the period ending Tuesday afternoon.
These probabilities reflect the chance of exceeding a specific rainfall amount during each 24-hour period, rather than the chance of any rainfall occurring.
Cooler Temperatures and Intermittent Showers Through the Week
Conditions are expected to improve somewhat by Wednesday, although additional showers remain possible.
Wednesday's forecast calls for a 40% chance of rain during the morning, followed by partly sunny skies and a high near 59 degrees. Overnight temperatures could drop to around 38 degrees.
Another opportunity for rainfall arrives Thursday, when forecasters predict a 50% chance of rain, mainly after 11 a.m., and a high near 57 degrees.
Friday and Saturday currently look drier in Roseburg, with mostly sunny skies and afternoon highs around 57 to 58 degrees. Overnight temperatures could fall into the mid-30s, with lows near 36 degrees Friday night and 35 degrees Saturday night.
Sunday is forecast to be mostly sunny with a high near 61 degrees, although the broader regional outlook remains uncertain as meteorologists continue tracking the position of low pressure offshore.
The National Weather Service noted that the exact location and movement of the weather system could influence how much additional rain reaches western Oregon later in the week.
Douglas County Could See Additional Rainfall
Although the heaviest and most widespread rainfall is expected early in the week, Douglas County remains one of the areas most likely to experience additional showers as the weather pattern continues.
Forecasters expect precipitation chances from Wednesday through Saturday to be concentrated primarily across Coos and Douglas counties and areas farther north.
The National Weather Service's extended outlook indicates that Roseburg has a 45% chance of receiving more than one-tenth of an inch of rain during the 24-hour period ending Thursday afternoon. Those probabilities fall to 25% for Friday and Saturday, before dropping to 10% Sunday and Monday.
Farther west, coastal communities could experience a longer period of wet weather. North Bend has a 70% probability of receiving more than one-tenth of an inch of precipitation during the 24-hour period ending Wednesday afternoon, compared with 25% in Roseburg.
Forecasters emphasized that rainfall timing and amounts later in the week remain subject to change.
Snow Possible Around Diamond Lake and Crater Lake
While Roseburg and much of the Umpqua Valley will experience rain, higher elevations in Southern Oregon could receive accumulating snow.
Snow levels are expected to range from approximately 5,000 to 5,500 feet early in the week, with around 2 to 5 inches of accumulation possible in the Diamond Lake and Crater Lake areas.
A second, weaker weather system moving through Monday night and Tuesday morning could lower snow levels to around 4,700 feet and produce up to an additional 2 inches of snow in those areas.
Later in the week, snow levels could drop to around 4,000 feet, occasionally reaching 3,000 feet as cooler air settles across the region.
However, forecasters do not currently expect widespread winter weather impacts because precipitation is anticipated to be limited during the colder periods.
Motorists traveling through higher elevations, particularly around Diamond Lake and Crater Lake, should remain aware of changing road conditions.
A Noticeable Shift From October's Warm Weather
The change in weather marks a substantial departure from the warmer conditions experienced across Roseburg earlier this month.
Climate records show Roseburg reached 86 degrees Oct. 5, 83 degrees Oct. 6, and 89 degrees Oct. 16. The city has since experienced cooler afternoons, including a high of just 62 degrees Friday, Oct. 23.
Sunday's rainfall also brought a notable change after a lengthy stretch without significant precipitation recorded at the station.
The National Weather Service expects daytime temperatures across western Southern Oregon to remain generally 10 to 15 degrees below normal for portions of the week, with highs commonly reaching the mid-50s.
Despite the unsettled conditions, meteorologists characterize the overall weather pattern as beneficial, bringing needed rainfall to western Oregon with relatively limited impacts expected.
For Roseburg, the week ahead will feature occasional rain, cooler afternoons, chilly mornings, and some opportunities for sunshine as the region settles into a more typical late-October weather pattern.
Kimz Klozet in Green Up for Sale, Could Close Next Summer as Owner Plans to Retire

ROSEBURG, Ore. - After seven years in business, Kimz Klozet owner Kimberly Torres is looking to sell her women's clothing boutique in Green as she prepares for semi-retirement and faces growing challenges from online shopping.
The boutique, located at 4601 Carnes Road, Suite 3, near Ray's Food Place, is currently listed for $79,000, down from its original asking price of $89,000.
Torres told The Roseburg Receiver that managing both Kimz Klozet and her formalwear business, Kimz Formalz, has become too demanding. With her 60th birthday approaching, she hopes to reduce her workload and spend less time running the storefront.

She also pointed to changing shopping habits as another reason for her decision. Torres said more people are turning to inexpensive online retailers rather than shopping at local businesses, making it increasingly difficult to keep the boutique open.
If the business hasn't sold by June 2027, Torres plans to begin liquidating merchandise and close the storefront by the end of August.
She intends to keep some of the merchandise, including embellished jeans and high-end purses, which she plans to sell online.
Although Torres plans to step away from Kimz Klozet, she has no intention of giving up her formalwear business.
"I will do the dresses til the day I die," Torres told The Roseburg Receiver.
Kimz Klozet opened in 2019 and sells new and gently used women's clothing, including plus-size apparel, shoes, jewelry, and accessories. The business has also offered formalwear and wedding dresses through Kimz Formalz.
Business Listed for $79,000
The boutique was first listed for sale July 15 through The Anderson Agency, with licensed real estate agent Kayla Watson handling inquiries.
According to the commercial real estate listing, the asking price includes the Kimz Klozet business name, inventory, furniture, fixtures, and equipment. The building itself is not included in the sale.
The listing describes the business as debt-free and operating under a month-to-month lease, with a monthly lease payment of $600.
Financial information included in the listing reports gross income of $65,609 and operating expenses of $27,607, although the reporting period for those figures is not specified. Additional financial records, including profit-and-loss statements and tax information, are available to prospective buyers.
The asking price was reduced by $10,000 on Oct. 7, according to commercial real estate records.
The listing also suggests that a new owner could expand the business by offering longer store hours, increasing online sales, or introducing additional merchandise.
Future of Kimz Klozet
For Torres, selling the boutique would allow her to step away from the demands of running the storefront while continuing her work with formalwear through Kimz Formalz.
The business remains available for purchase, and a new owner could continue operating Kimz Klozet at its current location, subject to lease arrangements.
If a buyer is not found by June 2027, however, Torres plans to begin winding down the business and leave the storefront by the end of August.
Those interested in purchasing Kimz Klozet are asked to contact Watson directly through The Anderson Agency. Private showings are available by appointment.
Additional information is available through the commercial real estate listing, MLS No. 280526904.

Boom Truck Destroyed By Fire Along Highway 42 Near Camas Valley

CAMAS VALLEY, Ore. - A boom truck was destroyed by fire Saturday afternoon, Oct. 24, along Highway 42 near Camas Valley, but firefighters were able to prevent the flames from spreading into nearby vegetation.
Camas Valley Rural Volunteer Fire District crews were dispatched to the vehicle fire near milepost 57 at approximately 1:45 p.m.
Engine 4231 was on its way within four minutes of dispatch. When firefighters arrived, they found the boom truck fully engulfed in flames.
Crews immediately began extinguishing the fire, bringing it under control before it could spread into the surrounding wildland vegetation.
No injuries were reported.
According to the fire district, the probable cause was a fuel leak that allowed fuel to come into contact with the vehicle's hot exhaust manifold. The fuel ignited, starting a fire in the engine compartment that eventually spread throughout the truck.
Eight volunteer firefighters responded with Engine 4231, Engine 4230, and Tender 4260.
Crews spent approximately one hour at the scene extinguishing the flames, checking for remaining hot spots, conducting mop-up operations, and assisting with traffic control to protect motorists and emergency personnel.
The district also credited Tenmile Rural Fire District, Oregon State Police, the Oregon Department of Transportation, and the Douglas Forest Protective Association for their assistance.
Fire officials said the quick response and coordination between agencies helped bring the incident to a safe conclusion while preventing the fire from spreading beyond the vehicle.
Douglas County Ballot Returns Reach 17.69%; New Drop Boxes Open in Glide and Roseburg

ROSEBURG, Ore. - Douglas County has received 15,820 ballots for the November general election, bringing participation to 17.69%, according to the latest update from the county clerk’s office.
The return rate is 0.37 percentage points ahead of participation at the same point in the 2022 gubernatorial election.
The clerk’s office also announced that two new ballot drop boxes are installed and accepting ballots in Glide and Roseburg. Emergency funding from the Oregon Legislature paid for the additions.
The new boxes are in the parking lots at:
- Glide Community Center: 20062 N. Umpqua Highway, Glide.
- Oregon Department of Human Services: 738 W. Harvard Ave., Roseburg.
According to the update, voters now have 17 official ballot drop-site locations across Douglas County.
Registered voters who have not received their ballots should contact or visit the county clerk’s office. Those returning ballots through the U.S. Postal Service are encouraged to mail them at least one week before Election Day to allow sufficient delivery time.
Voters can find drop-site addresses and hours on the county’s Official Drop Site Locations page.
The update also explained why ballots can differ among voters living in the same county. Douglas County has 29 precincts, with additional divisions created by overlapping electoral districts and precinct splits. Those boundaries determine which races and measures appear on each voter’s ballot.
For this election, the county has 65 distinct ballot styles.
The clerk’s office said election workers maintain voter registration records, prepare ballots and process and verify results under applicable laws and procedures. It also reminded residents that voter intimidation, coercion and interference are prohibited by law and may carry criminal penalties.
Old Melrose Road Daytime Closures Extended Through Oct. 27

ROSEBURG, Ore. - A section of Old Melrose Road will close during the day Monday, Oct. 26, and Tuesday, Oct. 27, as contractors continue sanitary sewer work serving the Roseburg Urban Sanitary Authority’s wastewater treatment plant.
The road will be closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day immediately north of West Goedeck Avenue toward Harvard Avenue. Local residents will be allowed access to their properties.
Contractors requested the additional closures to give Allied Trenchless more time to remove an underground bypass and replace sewer services associated with the project.
Detour signs will remain in place. Motorists should use alternate routes, allow extra travel time and drive cautiously near crews and equipment.
Work schedules are subject to change. The city said it will provide updates as more information becomes available.

The Ford Family Foundation Named 2026 Scholarship Provider of the Year

ROSEBURG, Ore. - The Ford Family Foundation, headquartered in Roseburg, has received national recognition for its longstanding commitment to helping students pursue higher education, earning the 2026 Scholarship Provider of the Year Award from the National Scholarship Providers Association (NSPA).
The Foundation was presented with the award Wednesday, October 21, during the NSPA Awards of Excellence Dinner at the association's annual conference. The honor recognizes scholarship organizations that go beyond providing financial assistance to help students succeed in college, overcome barriers, and build opportunities for their futures.
For The Ford Family Foundation, the award marks another milestone in more than three decades of supporting students across Oregon and Siskiyou County, California, with a particular emphasis on individuals from rural communities.
It is also the second time the Roseburg-based organization has received the national distinction, having previously been named Scholarship Provider of the Year in 2007.
A Lasting Investment in Students
The Ford Family Foundation has built its scholarship programs around the belief that a student's potential cannot be measured by grades alone.
Its selection process considers qualities such as determination, resilience, work ethic, motivation, and community involvement, recognizing that many capable students face financial and personal challenges that can make earning a college degree difficult.
“Our founders were committed to investing in high-potential students,” said Kara Inae Carlisle, CEO and president of the Foundation. “For this reason, the Foundation takes a holistic approach to selection, looking not only at academic performance but also at qualities such as resilience, work ethic, community engagement and motivation.”
That philosophy has helped shape a scholarship program that provides not only money for college but also academic guidance, leadership development, personal and professional support, and connections with fellow scholars and graduates.
Today, the Foundation supports approximately 1,000 students at any given time. Its alumni network includes more than 5,000 individuals, extending the program's reach well beyond graduation.
According to the Foundation, its scholarship programs have awarded more than $276 million to students since 1994, helping more than 6,000 individuals access higher education.
Scholarship Programs Designed for Different Educational Paths
The Foundation's scholarship opportunities are designed to reach students at different stages of life, including graduating high school seniors, community college transfer students, parents, and adults returning to school.
Its three primary scholarship programs include:
- Ford Scholars Program: Supports graduating high school seniors pursuing bachelor's degrees, particularly those who demonstrate financial need, determination, and potential.
- Ford Transfer Scholars Program: Helps community college students continue their education after transferring to a four-year institution to complete a bachelor's degree.
- Ford Opportunity Scholars Program: Provides opportunities for parents and adult learners who are pursuing associate or bachelor's degrees while balancing responsibilities outside the classroom.
The Foundation's Ford Opportunity program traces its roots to Hallie E. Ford's desire to help students facing the additional responsibilities of single parenthood. In 2021, it merged with the Ford ReStart Scholars Program, expanding eligibility to parents of any age and adult learners age 25 and older.
The three primary programs offer renewable financial awards of up to $40,000 per year, depending on eligibility and financial need.
The Foundation also administers a separate scholarship program for eligible children of Roseburg Forest Products employees, providing awards of up to $5,000 annually for education-related expenses.
Hundreds of New Scholars Selected in 2026
The scale of the Foundation's work is reflected in its most recent scholarship awards.
In June, the Foundation announced 259 scholarship recipients for the 2026-27 academic year, representing students from communities throughout Oregon and Siskiyou County.
Those awards included 120 new Ford Scholars, 90 Ford Opportunity Scholars, 25 Ford Transfer Scholars, and 24 recipients of the Ford Sons and Daughters Scholarship.
In addition to helping cover the cost of education, the Foundation works to connect recipients with resources and relationships intended to support their academic and personal development.
For students from rural communities, those services can be especially valuable. Moving away from home, navigating college systems, balancing family responsibilities, and managing the financial demands of higher education can all present significant challenges.
The Foundation's approach is intended to help students navigate those challenges rather than leaving them to do so alone.
National Organization Recognizes Exceptional Student Retention
One of the most significant accomplishments highlighted by the National Scholarship Providers Association was the Foundation's reported 92% lifetime Scholar retention rate.
The figure reflects the Foundation's sustained work to support scholarship recipients throughout their educational journeys.
Jackie Bright, president and CEO of the National Scholarship Providers Association, said the Foundation's approach demonstrates how scholarship programs can have a lasting impact when they prioritize continued student support.
“What distinguishes The Ford Family Foundation is its understanding that meaningful scholarship support extends well beyond the award itself,” Bright said.
She pointed to the Foundation's retention rate as evidence of the value of intentional, sustained investment in students.
“The Foundation is setting an example for our field of what is possible when scholarship programs are designed not simply to open doors, but to help students thrive once they walk through them,” Bright said.
The Scholarship Provider of the Year Award recognizes organizations that use their resources to expand access to college, improve educational outcomes, strengthen communities, encourage innovation, and advance the scholarship industry.
The recognition places the Roseburg organization alongside other prominent scholarship providers nationwide.
Recent recipients of the award include the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation in 2025, Evans Scholars Foundation in 2024, A. James & Alice B. Clark Foundation in 2023, Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation in 2022, and Loran Scholarship Foundation in 2021.
Continuing the Vision of the Ford Family
The Foundation's scholarship work is rooted in the legacy of Kenneth W. Ford and Hallie E. Ford and their commitment to creating educational opportunities for individuals who might otherwise struggle to attend college.
Kenneth Ford established the Ford Scholars Program to assist hardworking students with significant financial need and barriers to higher education. Hallie Ford later established the Ford Opportunity Scholars Program to help students pursuing degrees while raising children.
Those efforts have developed into an extensive network of scholarships, student support services, and alumni connections that continues to reach new generations.
Denise Callahan, the Foundation's director of Scholarships and Student Success, said receiving the national award is an opportunity to recognize the founders' vision and the work that continues today.
“We are very honored to receive this recognition,” Callahan said. “It's a privilege to carry out the vision of our founders and to support Scholars on their educational journey and beyond.”
Beyond scholarships, The Ford Family Foundation invests in rural communities through grants and community-building initiatives focused on supporting children, families, educational opportunities, and community well-being.
Although its programs extend across Oregon and into Northern California, the Foundation has maintained its headquarters in Roseburg, where its work has helped establish a statewide and national presence in education and philanthropy.
Opportunities for Future Scholarship Applicants
With the 2026 award recognizing the Foundation's past and ongoing work, prospective students will soon have another opportunity to apply for its scholarship programs.
According to the Foundation's scholarship information, the next application period is scheduled to open December 1, 2026, with a deadline of March 1, 2027.
Students interested in applying should review the eligibility requirements for the individual programs. Applicants generally must reside in Oregon or Siskiyou County, California, and meet the educational and enrollment requirements for their selected scholarship.
The Foundation does not require a minimum grade point average to apply, reflecting its emphasis on recognizing potential, determination, and the barriers students have overcome.
Information about available programs, application requirements, and upcoming informational sessions can be found at www.tfff.org/scholarships.
For an organization rooted in Roseburg, the 2026 Scholarship Provider of the Year Award recognizes a commitment to education that has reached thousands of students over more than 30 years.
It also underscores the impact that a foundation based in a rural Oregon community can have on educational opportunities throughout the region and across the country.
The Ford Family Foundation's work continues to reflect the belief that access to higher education should not be determined solely by a student's financial circumstances or the community where they grew up.
