Umpqua National Forest, National Forest Foundation Plant 429,500 Seedlings Across Burn Areas

The Umpqua National Forest and the National Forest Foundation planted 429,500 tree seedlings across 2,255 acres this winter as part of ongoing reforestation work in areas burned by major wildfires in recent years. The planting took place on the North Umpqua Ranger District in areas affected by the Jack, Little Bend, Chaos, and Archie Creek fires.

Forest officials and National Forest Foundation staff said some of the most challenging work happened in the Jack Fire footprint, where access made traditional planting difficult. To reach those areas, seedlings were distributed by helicopter to six drop sites covering about 400 acres that otherwise would have been inaccessible.

The effort is part of a broader push to restore forest lands after increasingly severe wildfire seasons. The National Forest Foundation says post-fire reforestation involves more than putting seedlings in the ground, with work also focused on seed collection, nursery growth, planting and long-term monitoring.

The foundation’s Umpqua reforestation work also highlights the growing need for restoration across fire-affected public lands. According to the National Forest Foundation, the need for tree planting on National Forests burned by wildfire has increased sharply in recent years as larger and more destructive fires leave behind landscapes that may struggle to recover on their own.

Adapt Recognizes Employees For Longstanding Service During March Event

Adapt Integrated Health Care honored employees for their years of service during a recognition luncheon held March 19, recognizing Q1 2026 honorees whose combined tenure with the organization totals 110 years.

The event brought together staff, leadership and board members to celebrate employees whose long-term service has helped support Adapt’s mission across southwest Oregon.

Stephanie Green, Adapt’s chief of human resources, said the recognition was about both longevity and impact.

“Thank you for choosing Adapt Integrated Health Care,” Green said. “You choose where you want to be, and we are grateful you have chosen to be part of this team. Today is about celebrating you and the incredible impact you have made.”

Green said the group being honored represented a combined 110 years of service and said that level of longevity reflects the strength of the organization and the people behind it.

During the luncheon, Adapt also highlighted the qualities colleagues associate with the honorees through a word cloud featuring terms such as dedication, compassion, commitment, trust and resilience.

Board of Directors President Kelsey Wood said the work done by Adapt employees reaches people who often lack the support and stability others may take for granted.

“Many of those we serve do not have the stability or support that others are fortunate to experience,” Wood said. “You deliver hope by equipping people with the tools they need to move forward.”

CEO Steve Baron said employee retention and long-term commitment speak to the purpose behind the organization’s work.

“It is incredible to have so many people choose to come to this organization, stay here, and build their careers here,” Baron said. “Today, we celebrate more than years of service. We celebrate your impact, your compassion, and your commitment to those we serve.”

The recognition also comes as Adapt marks another workplace milestone. The organization said it was recently named a Great Place to Work for the third consecutive year, with 86% of employees saying it is a great place to work.

Adapt said the luncheon served as a reminder that each service milestone reflects years of care, perseverance and connection - qualities the organization says continue to shape its work throughout the region.

Winter Storm Watch Issued For Cascades, Eastern Douglas County Foothills

Article by The Roseburg Receiver

A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from late Tuesday night through Thursday afternoon for parts of the southern Oregon Cascades and eastern Douglas County foothills, according to the National Weather Service in Medford.

Forecasters said heavy snow is possible across higher elevations, with total accumulations of 10 to 20 inches possible. Wind gusts could also reach as high as 40 mph over high and exposed terrain.

The watch includes the southern Oregon Cascades north of Howard Prairie Lake and the eastern Douglas County foothills above 3,000 feet, including passes along highways 140, 62, 138, 230 and 58. Areas named in the alert include Toketee Falls, Union Creek, Crescent Lake, Diamond Lake and Crater Lake.

The National Weather Service said travel may become very difficult to impossible, with hazardous conditions potentially affecting both the Wednesday morning and evening commutes. Gusty winds could also bring down tree branches.

Residents and travelers are urged to monitor the latest forecasts for updates as the storm system approaches.

H.O.P.E. DRUG COURT 112TH GRADUATION TUESDAY NIGHT

Article by KQEN News Radio

The H.O.P.E. Adult Drug Court will celebrate its 112th graduation ceremony Tuesday night at the Douglas County Fairgrounds.

A Douglas County Circuit Court release said the event will begin at 5:15 p.m. in the Cascade Conference Hall. It will be presided over by the Honorable Judge Robert Johnson who leads the adult drug court program.

Judge Johnson said, “These ceremonies remind us what recover looks life in real life. It takes hard work, accountability, and support. Drug court is built on the belief that people can change when they are given the structure, treatment, and encouragement needed to transform lives.”

Drug courts have demonstrated measurable success both locally and nationwide. By focusing on treatment and accountability, these programs significantly reduce repeat offenses and strengthen public safety. In 2025, four local graduation ceremonies produced 20 graduates, resulting in over $4.22 million in additional taxpayer savings.

This graduation’s guest speaker is Jason Cornutt. He was a graduate of the 105th H.O.P.E. Drug Court program and is now a dedicated peer mentor with Adapt Integrated Health Care. Through determination and growth, he has turned his life around and now helps others navigate their own recovery journeys.

The ceremony is open to the public.
