B’s Sweet Treats & More, CASA team up for April 1 fundraiser in Roseburg

Article by The Roseburg Receiver

CASA of Douglas County and B’s Sweet Treats & More are joining forces for a special fundraiser next month aimed at supporting children in care while also raising awareness during Child Abuse Prevention Month.

The event, called “A Sweet Day for CASA,” is scheduled for Wednesday, April 1, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at B’s Sweet Treats & More, 1350 NE Stephens St., Suite 27, in Roseburg.

The fundraiser will take place during the bakery’s “Happy Hour, Bakery Edition,” when customers can take advantage of a buy two, get two free cupcake promotion. Organizers say anyone who purchases a blue cupcake during that time will also be helping CASA of Douglas County, with 50% of proceeds from those cupcakes going to the organization.

The event is tied to Child Abuse Prevention Month, which is represented nationally by the blue pinwheel. As part of the effort, customers who participate will receive a Pinwheels for Prevention pin at checkout.

CASA of Douglas County Director Angela Gross said partnerships like this help bring attention to the needs of local children while giving the public an easy way to get involved.

In a statement, Gross said the organization appreciates seeing local businesses use their visibility to support children in care and thanked B’s Sweet Treats & More for its continued commitment to the community.

The bakery’s owner, Brandon Ekman, is already known for supporting foster youth, including through the donation of free birthday cakes for children in care. Organizers said this new partnership continues that effort in a way that invites the wider community to participate.

CASA of Douglas County is encouraging residents to stop by during the event, pick up a treat and show support for child abuse prevention efforts in Douglas County.

ELMERS ADDS HOURS, PLANS TO ADD DINNER MENU

Article by KQEN News Radio

After reopening in a new location last June, Elmer’s Restaurant in Roseburg has recently increased its hours of operation and will feature an expanded menu soon.

Company Vice President Jill Ramos told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that Elmer’s is now open from 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. The restaurant had previously closed at 2:30 p.m. Ramos said they are currently serving the company’s Kitchen Breakfast * Brunch *Mimosa menu at its location on Northwest Aviation Drive. Ramos said this has been a hit for guests who love breakfast for dinner. The current menu also includes favorites such as Beer-Batter Fish & Chips, Bacon Avocado Burger, and Dungeness Crab BLT Salad.

Ramos said the local restaurant plans to fully convert to Elmers Breakfast * Lunch *Dinner menu by Friday, April 3rd.  Ramos said the expanded menu adds additional lunch favorites plus dinner offerings including Slow-Roasted Prime Rib, Oregon Trail Flat Iron Steak, and Wild Alaskan Cod. With the exception of the Prime Rib Dinner, which is offered after 4:00 p.m. the full Breakfast* Lunch *Dinner menu will be available all day once the update takes place. Exterior building signage will be updated shortly thereafter.

As the local company-owned restaurant continues to grow, Roseburg Elmer’s expects to add a few more team members.

The regional chain was founded in 1960. Elmer’s operates at over two dozen locations in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and California.

YMCA OF DOUGLAS COUNTY PROMOTES WATER SAFETY AHEAD OF SUMMER

Article by KQEN News Radio

With warmer weather and families beginning to spend more time at pools, rivers, and lakes, the YMCA of Douglas County is encouraging the community to prioritize water safety.

A YMCA release said teaching lifesaving swimming skills has long been a central part of the organization’s mission. In 2025, the YMCA of Douglas County provided swim lessons to over 1,900 individuals, ranging from six months to 80 years old. The organization also offered about 40 swim lesson classes and 80 water exercise classes each month, serving children, adults and seniors across the community.

YMCA Marketing & Development Director Brittany Arnold said the YMCA continues to expand drowning prevention efforts throughout Douglas County. Arnold said over the past year, the organization has distributed 500 free youth life jackets to families, and installed life jacket stations at Ben Irving and Cooper Creek reservoirs to help increase access to safety equipment.

The YMCA also trains aquatic professionals for local facilities. In 2025, it certified 30 new American Red Cross lifeguards, many of whom now work at YMCA pools and other aquatic locations throughout the region.

Arnold said community members can connect with the YMCA’s water safety programs during Healthy Kids Day on April 25th from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the YMCA of Douglas County on Northwest Stewart Parkway in Roseburg. Free youth life jackets will be distributed. The YMCA will also host Safety Around Water week, offering free swim instructions for youth ages 6-16 during spring break.
