Nordic Veneer Announces Closure of Roseburg Operations After 72 Years

ROSEBURG, Ore. — Nordic Veneer Inc., a long-running family-owned business with deep roots in Douglas County’s timber industry, announced Friday that it will permanently close its Roseburg operations.
The company has operated for more than 72 years, beginning in 1954 when it was founded by Dick Adams and Norm Jacobsen. In 1960, the company purchased the Perkins veneer plant in Dixonville, where it continued to grow under the leadership of the Adams family for four generations.
Owner Art Adams said the decision to close came after “careful and difficult consideration,” citing ongoing challenges in the wood products industry.
“Our industry has faced sustained wood supply and market challenges, structural realignment, and foreign competition,” Adams said. “Despite our team’s hard work, recent investments in efficiency, and deep commitment to this business, sustaining operations is no longer viable under current market conditions.”
Nordic Veneer has been a fixture in the local wood products economy for decades, producing veneer while serving as a steady employer in the Roseburg area. Company leaders said they are working directly with employees to provide transition support and job placement resources as operations wind down.
Beyond its role in the timber industry, Nordic Veneer has also been tied closely to the Douglas County community through support for local hospitals, cancer centers, libraries, schools, healthcare systems, Umpqua Valley Christian School and early efforts to bring Christian radio to the area through local translators.
The Adams family said they remain proud of the company’s legacy, which they described as one built on hard work, integrity, local investment and care for the community.
“We would like to thank our dedicated employees over the last 72 years, the community who has stood beside us every step of the way, and most of all the Creator of it all, who sustained our business and family and blessed us beyond anything we could have imagined,” the family said. “To God be the glory.”
The company also expressed gratitude to its employees, suppliers, customers and the broader Roseburg and Douglas County community for their support over more than seven decades.
Round Table Pizza Officially Reopens in Roseburg

Round Table Pizza is officially open again in Roseburg.
Now Open signs are up near the corner of Garden Valley Boulevard and Stewart Parkway, where the restaurant has been preparing to open inside the Roseburg Marketplace area.
The new location is at 2040 NW Stewart Parkway, near Wingstop and other businesses in the shopping center.
Round Table’s return has been in the works for several months. Earlier this year, the company confirmed that the Roseburg location was expected to reopen this spring under an existing franchisee.
For many people in Roseburg, Round Table is a familiar name. The restaurant previously operated in town before closing, and its return has been something locals have been asking about since signs first started going up.
With the Now Open signs posted, customers can once again stop in for Round Table Pizza in Roseburg.
Winston Area Independence Day Celebration Draws Huge Turnout, Organizer Calls Parade Likely Biggest in City History

WINSTON - Winston’s Independence Day celebration brought out a major crowd this year, with organizers calling it one of the biggest nights the community has seen for the annual fireworks event.
In a video shared after the celebration, Winston Area Independence Day organizer Onikka Driscoll thanked the community, volunteers, sponsors, public safety agencies, vendors and everyone who helped bring the event together.
Driscoll said she was especially proud of the turnout and the parade, saying she believes it may have been the biggest parade Winston has ever seen.
“Holy smokes,” Driscoll said while thanking those who helped coordinate the parade. “I believe that that is the biggest parade that Winston has ever seen.”
The celebration included the parade, car show, vendors, live entertainment, the fireworks display and other community activities throughout the day. Driscoll gave special thanks to the WAID team, including those who helped coordinate vendors, the car show, power, trash, parking, cleanup and other behind-the-scenes work.
She also thanked Winston police, local fire departments, and Western Display Fireworks, noting that crews helped keep the event safe and assisted with cleanup afterward.
Driscoll said the support from local churches, businesses and surrounding properties also played a major role by allowing people to park nearby. She said those partnerships helped make it possible for thousands of people to attend and enjoy the evening.
The event also carried a personal meaning for many involved. Driscoll said this year’s celebration was special as the community remembered loved ones who are no longer here while bringing families together for a shared night under the fireworks.
“It’s about families and kids and pulling people together,” she said. “At 10 o’clock, we were all looking up at the same thing in the sky.”
WAID organizers are already looking ahead to next year and are encouraging community members to get involved. Driscoll said volunteers are needed throughout the year, not just on the day of the fireworks show.
Anyone interested in helping with future Winston Area Independence Day events is encouraged to attend a WAID meeting or follow the organization for future volunteer opportunities.
A video taken of the parade cab be found here.
Grass Fire Near Wil Way Road Stopped at About 1.5 Acres

WINSTON, Ore. - Fire crews were called to a grass fire Sunday afternoon at the end of Wil Way Road in Winston.
Central Douglas Fire & Rescue said the call came in at about 1:33 p.m. on July 5. When crews arrived, they found a fast-moving grass fire that was estimated at about 1.5 acres.
Firefighters from Central Douglas Fire & Rescue and DFPA moved in quickly and were able to contain the fire before it spread farther.
Officials said the fire was started by equipment being used to cut grass.
Central Douglas Fire & Rescue responded with two Type 6 brush engines and a command vehicle. DFPA and Winston Police Department also assisted.

For The Love of Paws Seeking Volunteer Board Member To Support Community Veterinary Care
ROSEBURG, Ore. - For The Love of Paws Veterinary Clinic is looking for a community-minded volunteer to join its Board of Directors and help guide the nonprofit clinic’s work serving families and pets across Douglas County.
The Roseburg-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit provides accessible and affordable veterinary care to local pet owners, including low-income households, veterans, seniors, community cat caretakers and families referred by shelters and emergency hospitals.
The organization is seeking someone interested in supporting its mission and helping strengthen the clinic’s role in the community. No veterinary background or specific professional credential is required.
Helpful qualities include an interest in accessible veterinary care, a willingness to learn how nonprofit boards operate, reliability, follow-through and a collaborative approach to decision-making. Experience in finance, fundraising, business, nonprofit work, legal services, marketing, veterinary care or community outreach may be helpful, but is not required.
Board members participate in discussions and vote on organizational matters. The board meets once per quarter, with meetings offered both remotely and in person. Additional meetings are rare and typically occur only during budget season or when major decisions need to be made.
The expected time commitment is about three to 10 hours per quarter, including meeting time and reviewing materials. The position is volunteer-based.
According to For The Love of Paws, the clinic provided more than 1,500 exams, surgeries and urgent-care visits in 2025. The organization also supported more than 800 program recipients through its Helping Hands Fund, Compassionate Fund, feral programs, veterans subsidies and spay/neuter assistance.
“Our mission is to make essential veterinary care accessible to everyone, regardless of income,” the organization said.
Community members interested in learning more or expressing interest in the board position are asked to contact For The Love of Paws by July 30, 2026. The deadline may be extended if needed.
Those interested can email HR@roseburgpaws.com or call 541-677-6070.
