ROSEBURG, Ore. - A domestic disturbance at a Keasey Street residence Thursday morning led to a standoff lasting several hours, prompting nearby businesses to lock down and surrounding residents to shelter in place before police arrested a man.
According to Roseburg Police, officers responded about mid-morning Oct. 15 and contacted William McCullough at the door. Officers entered the residence to help a woman who was seeking their assistance.
Police said McCullough retreated to his bedroom and armed himself with a firearm. Officers grabbed the woman and exited the residence to safety. McCullough then refused to come outside.
Keasey Street remained blocked for several hours while members of the Roseburg Police and Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Crisis Negotiation Teams negotiated with McCullough. Those efforts ultimately led to his arrest.
Several Douglas County sheriff’s deputies, an Oregon State Police trooper, Roseburg Fire, and Umpqua Valley Ambulance assisted Roseburg officers during the incident.
Police said no lethal or non-lethal weapons were discharged, and nobody was injured.
Several local businesses were advised to go into lockdown during the standoff, while surrounding residents were advised to shelter in place. Keasey Street reopened after the incident, and police said there were no ongoing safety concerns for the public.
McCullough was lodged at the Douglas County Jail on charges of domestic menacing, domestic strangulation, and menacing. The charges are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
