Juvenile Rescued From River at River Bend Park in Winston
A juvenile was rescued from the river Thursday evening at River Bend Park in Winston and taken to Mercy Medical Center. Officials said the juvenile’s condition was unknown after the multi-agency response.
A juvenile was rescued from the river Thursday evening at River Bend Park in Winston after emergency crews were called to a report of someone in distress in the water.
The call came in at 5:22 p.m. on Thursday, June 18. Central Douglas Fire & Rescue said its Technical Rescue Team was able to remove the juvenile from the river.
The juvenile was then taken by Umpqua Valley Ambulance to Mercy Medical Center. Their condition was not known as of Thursday evening.
Several agencies responded to the scene, including Central Douglas Fire & Rescue, Winston Police Department, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Cow Creek Tribal Police, Adapt and Umpqua Valley Ambulance.
Following the rescue, Central Douglas Fire & Rescue reminded the public to be cautious around local rivers, especially as more people head to the water during warm weather. The agency encouraged swimmers to pay attention to currents, use proper safety gear, closely supervise children and stay alert to changing river conditions and other hazards.
