ROSEBURG, Ore. - Emergency crews helped rescue a 46-year-old man Monday morning after he was injured while paragliding in the North Bank Habitat area northeast of Roseburg.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, the man contacted emergency dispatchers around 10 a.m. Monday, October 19, after suffering an injury that left him unable to continue walking. He was able to communicate his situation and request assistance.

With the man unable to reach an ambulance on his own, emergency medical personnel requested help from Douglas County Search and Rescue (SAR) to move him out of the area.

Responders placed the man in a wheeled Stokes basket, a rescue stretcher designed to transport injured patients across difficult terrain. Search and Rescue members worked alongside personnel from the Glide Rural Fire Protection District and Umpqua Valley Ambulance to bring him to a waiting ambulance.

The man was transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg for medical treatment. The Sheriff's Office did not provide details about the nature or severity of his injuries.

The rescue also involved an additional passenger of sorts. The injured man's dog had accompanied him to the area, and with its owner headed to the hospital, a sheriff's deputy took the dog back to its home.

No additional information about the man's condition was provided.
