Fire Restrictions Increase Across Douglas District as Hotter, Drier Conditions Build
Fire restrictions are increasing across the Douglas District as hotter, drier conditions raise wildfire concerns. Moderate public use restrictions begin June 13, with IFPL Level 2 taking effect June 15.
ROSEBURG, Ore. — Fire restrictions are increasing across the Douglas District as warmer temperatures, lower humidity and drying vegetation raise wildfire concerns heading into mid-June.
The changes affect lands protected by the Douglas Forest Protective Association, as well as lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management’s Roseburg District.
Beginning Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 12:01 a.m., Public Use Restrictions will move to Moderate on private, county, state and Bureau of Indian Affairs lands within the Douglas District, along with Roseburg BLM District lands. At the same time, the BLM Roseburg District will begin Stage 2 Fire Prevention Restrictions on BLM-administered public lands.
A second change takes effect Monday, June 15, 2026, at 12:01 a.m., when Industrial Fire Precaution Levels increase to IFPL Level 2 on all lands protected by DFPA, including BLM-managed lands.
The restrictions are intended to reduce the risk of human-caused fires during the hottest and driest parts of the day.
Moderate Public Use Restrictions
Under Moderate Public Use Restrictions, several activities are limited to cooler parts of the day. The following activities are only allowed before 1:00 p.m. or after 8:00 p.m.:
- Non-industrial power saw use
- Cutting, grinding or welding metal
- Cutting, trimming or mowing dried or cured grass
- Operating power-driven machinery for non-industrial property improvement or development on private lands
Industrial Fire Precaution Level 2
The IFPL Level 2 change applies to all lands protected by DFPA within regulated use areas DG-1, DG-2, UA-1 and UA-2, as well as forestland within one-eighth mile of those areas.
Beginning June 15, the following industrial activities may only operate between 8:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.:
- Power saws, except power saws operating at loading sites
- Feller-bunchers with rotary head saws
- Cable yarding
- Blasting
- Welding, cutting or grinding metal
BLM Stage 2 Fire Restrictions
The BLM Roseburg District is also implementing Stage 2 Fire Prevention Restrictions on BLM-administered public lands in the district.
Under those restrictions, open fires, including charcoal briquettes, are prohibited except at designated BLM campgrounds. Those campgrounds include:
- Cavitt Creek Falls Campground
- Eagleview Group Campground
- Susan Creek Campground
- Tyee Campground
Gas-powered chainsaws on BLM lands may only be used before 10:00 a.m. or after 8:00 p.m. Battery-powered and electric chainsaws are exempt from the time-of-day limits and may be used throughout the day.
All chainsaw operations require a shovel, fire extinguisher and a one-hour fire watch after use.
Additional restrictions, exemptions and temporary area closures may apply under the BLM Fire Prevention Order.
Officials Urge Caution
Fire officials said the restrictions are meant to limit sparks and heat sources that could ignite dry vegetation. As fire season conditions continue to change, additional restrictions could be added.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to stay alert while working or recreating outdoors and to keep up with the latest fire season updates.
More information about DFPA restrictions is available at dfpa.net and through the Douglas Forest Protective Association’s social media pages. Details about the BLM Roseburg District Stage 2 Fire Prevention Order are available through the BLM Roseburg District Office.
