Election Day Is Tuesday, November 3

With Election Day approaching, the Douglas County Clerk's Office is reminding residents to make sure their completed ballots are returned on time.

Ballots must either be deposited at an official ballot drop site by 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3, or mailed with a valid postmark dated no later than Election Day.

For voters planning to mail their ballots on or near November 3, the Clerk's Office recommends visiting a post office counter and asking a postal clerk to apply a hand-cancellation stamp to the return envelope. This helps ensure the ballot receives a timely postmark.

Voters who are uncertain whether their mailed ballot will receive an Election Day postmark can instead use an official ballot drop site.

Douglas County has 17 official ballot drop sites available throughout the county. Ballots deposited at these locations by 8 p.m. on Election Day will be collected for processing.

How Oregon Prevents Duplicate Voting

The Douglas County Clerk's Office also shared information about safeguards used in Oregon's vote-by-mail system.

Each ballot return envelope contains identifying information that election officials use to verify the voter and track whether a ballot has already been received.

Oregon's voter registration system flags duplicate ballot returns, preventing more than one ballot from being counted for the same voter in an election.

Election officials verify voter eligibility and process return envelopes before separating the ballots for tabulation. This process allows officials to confirm that a ballot comes from an eligible voter while keeping individual votes confidential.

Once ballots are separated from their identifying envelopes, they can be prepared for counting.

Where to Find Election Information

Voters can check the status of their ballots through the Oregon Secretary of State's ballot tracking service at OregonVotes.gov/Track.

Residents who have questions about their ballot, need a replacement, or encounter an issue with their return envelope can contact the Douglas County Clerk's Office.

The general election is Tuesday, November 3, 2026, with ballot drop sites closing at 8 p.m.
