Douglas County Deputies Complete July Speed Enforcement Campaign

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. - The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has completed a grant-funded traffic enforcement campaign aimed at reducing speeding and improving safety on local roads.

Deputies conducted 35 hours of additional speed enforcement during the July campaign. The overtime patrols were funded through a grant administered by the Oregon Department of Transportation.

During the enforcement period, deputies issued:

• 40 warnings for speeding
• 17 citations for speeding
• 9 citations for driving while suspended
• 2 warnings for equipment violations
• 3 citations for equipment violations
• 36 warnings for other violations
• 13 citations for other violations

“Speed limits are established to keep everyone safe,” Sheriff John Hanlin said. “Our goal is not simply to write citations, but to encourage drivers to slow down, make responsible decisions behind the wheel, and help prevent crashes that can have lifelong consequences.”

The Sheriff’s Office is reminding motorists to follow posted speed limits, avoid distractions such as cellphone use and adjust their speed for traffic, weather and roadway conditions.
