Douglas County Cheer Hosting 10th Anniversary Youth Cheer Clinic

Douglas County Cheer will celebrate the 10th anniversary of its youth cheer clinic Sept. 15 and 17 at Winston Middle School. The clinic is open to grades K-8 and includes a chance to cheer in the Melon Festival Parade and perform on stage.

Douglas County Cheer is inviting young athletes from across the area to get a taste of cheerleading this September as the organization celebrates the 10th anniversary of its annual cheer clinic.

The clinic is open to youth in kindergarten through eighth grade who are not already members of the Douglas County Cheer team. No previous cheer experience is required.

Participants will spend two evenings learning cheers and preparing their own routine before getting the chance to put those skills to use during Winston's Melon Festival.

Clinic practices will be held Sept. 15 and 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Winston Middle School.

The experience doesn't end with practice. On Saturday, Sept. 19, participants will join Douglas County Cheer in the Melon Festival Parade and then perform their own routine on stage following the parade.

Registration costs $35 and includes a T-shirt.

For families with children who have been curious about cheer, the clinic offers a chance to try it out, learn a routine and experience performing as part of a group without committing to a full season.

Registration must be completed by Sept. 1.
