DFPA Reports Two Fires Near Roseburg and Umpqua, No Threat to Structures
DFPA crews were working two fires Thursday near Roseburg and Umpqua, including the 12 to 15 acre Hubbard / Bear Fire near Callahan Road and a 2 acre fire on Tyee Road. Officials said weather conditions are helping and no homes or structures are threatened.
ROSEBURG, Ore. — Douglas Forest Protective Association crews and landowner resources were actively working two fires Thursday afternoon, including a larger fire near Callahan Road in Roseburg and a smaller fire near Tyee Road in Umpqua.
According to DFPA, the larger fire was reported at about 4:30 p.m. on April 9 and is burning in an industrial timber unit near the 8000 block of Callahan Road. The fire, currently being referred to as the Hubbard / Bear Fire, is estimated at 12 to 15 acres.
Officials said there has been little to no fire growth into the surrounding timber, and current weather conditions have helped suppression efforts. No significant growth is expected at this time, and there is no threat to homes or other structures.
DFPA said an official name for the Hubbard / Bear Fire will be released later.
Firefighters were also working a second fire near the 8000 block of Tyee Road in Umpqua. That fire is estimated at about 2 acres.
According to DFPA, the forward spread of the Tyee Road Fire has been knocked down. The fire is currently 100% plumbed and 30% lined, with crews expected to remain engaged until mop-up is complete.
Officials said there is no threat to homes or structures from that fire either.
A more detailed press release with additional information is expected Friday.
