DFPA Provides Updates on Olalla Road and Dimmick Creek Fires
DFPA crews have contained two recent Douglas County fires near Winston and Sutherlin. The 23-acre Olalla Road Fire is in patrol status, while the 0.27-acre Dimmick Creek Fire has moved into mop-up operations.
The Douglas Forest Protective Association has released updates on two recent fires in Douglas County, including the 23-acre Olalla Road Fire near Winston and a small fire that broke out Monday morning near Sutherlin.
Neither fire threatened homes or structures, according to DFPA.
Olalla Road Fire Near Winston Reaches Patrol Status
Firefighters have completed mop-up operations on the 23-acre Olalla Road Fire, which started Saturday afternoon near the 3300 block of Upper Olalla Road in Winston.
The fire was reported at approximately 3 p.m. Saturday, August 22. Crews from DFPA, Central Douglas Fire & Rescue, Lookingglass Rural Fire District, Camas Valley Volunteer Fire District and Tenmile Rural Fire District responded.
When firefighters arrived, the fire was initially estimated at about 3 acres and was moving uphill.
Crews were able to stop the forward spread and ultimately construct dozer line around the entire perimeter. The final mapped size was 23 acres.
Mop-up work has since been completed, and the fire has transitioned into patrol status.
DFPA said the fire was human-caused, although the specific cause remains under active investigation.
No homes or other structures were threatened.
DFPA resources assigned to the fire included:
- Five engines
- One squad
- One dozer
- One Type 2 helicopter
- One fixed-wing Air Attack aircraft
- Overhead command staff
Dimmick Creek Fire Near Sutherlin Held to Less Than One Acre
Firefighters also responded Monday morning to the Dimmick Creek Fire near the 400 block of Northside Road in Sutherlin.
DFPA, the Sutherlin Fire Department and Fair Oaks Rural Fire District were dispatched at approximately 9:57 a.m. Monday, August 24.
Upon arrival, crews found an industrial operator actively constructing a dozer line around the perimeter of the 0.27-acre fire, according to a correction issued Monday afternoon by DFPA.
DFPA resources, including five engines, a Type 2 helicopter, a fixed-wing Air Attack aircraft and overhead command staff, assisted in stopping the fire's forward spread.
The fire has since moved into mop-up operations. DFPA said minimal smoke may remain visible in the area while crews continue working.
The cause of the Dimmick Creek Fire remains under investigation.
No homes or structures were threatened.
