Cooler Weather Returns To Roseburg With Chilly Nights Ahead
Roseburg will cool down this weekend as a mostly dry cold front brings breezy conditions and slight rain chances. Valley highs will fall into the low to mid-60s Saturday, with chilly nights ahead and a limited chance of frost in Roseburg.
ROSEBURG, Ore. - Roseburg’s stretch of unusually warm October weather is coming to an end, with a cold front arriving Friday and bringing cooler temperatures, afternoon breezes, and a slight chance of rain.
The National Weather Service in Medford said temperatures in valleys west of the Cascades will drop about 10 to 15 degrees Friday compared with recent days. The cooldown will continue through the weekend, bringing more typical fall weather to the Umpqua Valley.
Patchy low clouds could develop around Roseburg early Friday before lifting as the front moves inland. A few light showers are possible in the Umpqua Basin during the afternoon and evening, but the front carries little moisture. Rain chances for coastal areas and the Umpqua Basin are generally between 15% and 30%.
West to northwest winds will become breezy Friday afternoon and evening. The strongest winds are expected east of the Cascades.
Mostly Dry Weekend, Colder Nights
Saturday will feel noticeably different from the warm days earlier this week. High temperatures across west-side valleys are expected to reach only the low to mid-60s, with mostly dry conditions. A few showers could reach the coast or northwestern portions of the forecast area.
Sunday should bring pleasant conditions to most valleys west of the Cascades, though northerly breezes are expected to pick up during the afternoon.
The bigger change will come overnight. Clearing skies and colder air will introduce a risk of frost in some west-side valleys Saturday night, with Sunday night currently expected to be the coldest night.
Roseburg’s chances of temperatures falling below 36 degrees Sunday night are about 20%, according to the weather service. That is lower than the 60% to 80% chances forecast for Medford, Ashland, and Grants Pass. The probability refers to temperatures below 36 degrees, rather than a forecast of freezing conditions in Roseburg.
Residents with cold-sensitive outdoor plants may want to watch updated forecasts as the weekend approaches.
Gradual Warming Next Week
Dry, seasonably cool weather is expected to continue Monday. A weak disturbance could bring clouds and a low chance of light rain to Douglas County Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
Temperatures should then trend upward, with the warmest days of next week expected Thursday and Friday. Forecasters said the warming is unlikely to bring a return to the heat experienced during the first week of October.
