After Years Away, Everything Pumpkin Festival Returns to Canyonville October 24

CANYONVILLE, Ore. - A fall tradition is making its way back to Pioneer Park, with pumpkin contests, live music, and an afternoon of games planned for the return of the Everything Pumpkin Festival.

After years away, the free community event will take place Saturday, Oct. 24, from noon to 7 p.m. at Pioneer Park, 305 SE Canyon St. Local volunteers have organized its return, bringing together activities ranging from a giant pumpkin contest to a children’s costume parade.

Days Creek FFA will give away 200 pumpkins grown by its members while supplies last. Families can also take part in gunny sack races, three-legged races, and tug-of-war, or visit the face-painting station and Canyonville Community Library’s craft booth.

Other attractions include the WOW Truck and a 40-foot climbing wall provided by the Army National Guard. Live music is scheduled throughout the day, and food vendors will be on site.

For those with a competitive streak, the festival will feature pumpkin carving, pumpkin painting, scarecrow, tall tales, and pie-eating contests, along with the giant pumpkin competition. Every child participating in the costume parade will receive a prize.

Festival President Bruce Knowlton credited Vice President Joanne Gordon with helping get the celebration going again.

“Vice President Joanne Gordon's passion for community involvement and for bringing neighbors together is what got this festival going again,” Knowlton said.

A dessert silent auction will give visitors a chance to bid on homemade treats. Organizers are seeking dessert donations, which can be dropped off at the festival between noon and 1 p.m. Oct. 24.

The Canyonville Chamber of Commerce is the festival’s main sponsor. Blue Ribbon Sponsors include the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians, South Umpqua Rural Community Partnership, and Steve and Christine Morgan. Other local businesses and individuals are also supporting the event.

A festival schedule, sponsor list, and additional details are available at canyonvillelibrary.org/pumpkinfestival-page and on the Everything Pumpkin Festival Facebook page. Questions can be emailed to everythingpumpkinfestival@gmail.com.
