Roseburg Man Jailed After Police Recover Reported Stolen Pickup

A Roseburg man was lodged at the Douglas County Jail after police reported finding him Tuesday morning in a pickup that had been reported stolen from a business on Northeast Stephens Street.

According to the Roseburg Police Department, officers were called to investigate the theft of a 1994 Ford F-150 reported missing shortly after midnight March 9 from the 2000 block of Northeast Stephens Street. Police said the keys had not been left in the truck.

Officers later contacted 36-year-old Preston Nicholas Torguson in the vehicle in the Safeway parking lot at 1539 NE Stephens St. Police said Torguson admitted taking the truck, but told officers he believed he had permission from the previous owner to drive it at any time.

The truck’s owner, identified in police logs as 27-year-old Rajinder Singh Bhatti of Sutherlin, also reported damage to the hood and front bumper. Police said the blue-green 1994 Ford F-150 had two faded Indian head logos behind both doors.

Torguson was lodged at corrections on a charge of unauthorized use of a vehicle. The pickup was towed from the scene by Bill’s Towing.
