Roseburg Arbor Day Photo Contest Opens March 12

Roseburg area residents will have an opportunity this spring to photograph some of the city’s trees and compete for a featured spot in the city’s e-newsletter as part of the 2026 Arbor Day Photo Contest.

Roseburg Parks and Recreation said the contest opens Thursday, March 12, and entries will be accepted through 5 p.m. Friday, April 17.

The contest invites people to submit one JPEG photo, less than 5 MB, showing a tree or grove of trees photographed in the Roseburg area. Eligible locations include Roseburg, Melrose, Green, Lookingglass, Garden Valley and Winchester. Contest rules state the photo must be taken between March 12 and April 17, and the submission must identify where the photo was taken.

Roseburg Parks and Recreation Coordinator Tracy David said the contest is intended to highlight the natural beauty found throughout the city, including in urban settings.

“We encourage photographers to explore the urban areas of Roseburg,” David said. “You don’t have to be surrounded by a forest to be inspired by trees. There are some really beautiful natural elements sprinkled throughout our city.”

According to the city, the top three photos will be announced on Arbor Day, Friday, April 24, on the Roseburg Parks and Recreation Facebook page. Winning images will also be featured in the Spring 2026 edition of the City Connection e-newsletter.

The city said anyone may enter by submitting a photo taken in the Roseburg area that depicts a tree or grove of trees. Only one submission per person will be accepted.

Roseburg Parks and Recreation encouraged people to use whatever camera they are comfortable with, including a cell phone or another camera. However, the city said photos should not be altered with Adobe Photoshop or other editing software in a way that changes the appearance or reality of the image.

Only entries submitted through the city’s online contest form will be considered. The city said emailed photos will not be accepted. It also reserved the right to post additional entries and to withhold any photo considered inappropriate.

The winning photos are expected to be highlighted in the city’s spring newsletter, which residents can receive by signing up for the City Connection e-newsletter.
