Ribbon Cutting Set For Roseburg’s New $2.5 Million Outdoor Tennis And Pickleball Facility
Roseburg will celebrate its new $2.5 million outdoor tennis and pickleball facility with a ribbon cutting at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 5, at Stewart Park. The upgrade includes eight tennis courts, 10 pickleball courts, plus new lighting, fencing, seating, and security.
Roseburg will celebrate a major upgrade to its outdoor racquet sports facilities in early March with a ribbon cutting and grand opening for a newly renovated tennis and pickleball complex.

City officials are inviting residents to attend the ceremony at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 5, at Stewart Park, next to the Umpqua Valley Tennis Center. The updated facility includes eight renovated tennis courts and 10 dedicated pickleball courts, along with new fencing, lighting, seating, an improved entryway, and a security system.
The project replaces courts that were more than 50 years old. Funding for the renovation totaled $2.5 million and included a $750,000 state grant secured by Val Ligon, $523,000 in city funding, and $1.1 million in matching community funds raised by the nonprofit tennis center.
Court pricing will remain low. Adults will continue to pay $2 to use the courts, and youth players age 18 and under will be able to play for free. The tennis center will also offer a new month to month option for non members who want access specifically to the outdoor courts. That membership will cost $25 for adults and $45 for households, with no annual commitment.
Officials expect strong turnout once the renovated courts open. “We’re anticipating it will be so busy that a schedule will need to be put into place,” Ligon said, adding that there is significant excitement in the community and many players are eager to get on the courts.
Players are asked to bring their own rackets and balls. Information about classes and tournaments is available through UVTC website.
