Fresh headlines, updates, and community info to start the day.
Autism Awareness Walk Draws Crowd in Roseburg Amid Fremont Middle School Case

Community members in Roseburg gathered Sunday at Fir Grove Park for an Autism Awareness Solidarity Walk for Justice after incidents at Fremont Middle School led to the arrests of three school employees.
Organizers said the walk was planned in response to injuries reported among students in the school’s Developmental Learning Center. More than 50 people took part, walking from Fir Grove Park to Fremont Middle School.
The event followed the arrest of two instructional assistants and their supervisor, according to participants. Parents and family members said they want greater accountability and continued attention on what happened.
One parent, Dayla Camillo, attended with her 13-year-old son, Ryley, who is nonverbal and autistic. Camillo said her son is recovering and was able to join the walk.
Another parent, Kristin Young, said the news of Ryley’s injuries spread quickly among families connected to the program. Young said her daughter reacted strongly after learning that a student had been hurt and later realizing it was Ryley.
Family members said Ryley suffered fractures to his radius and ulna while at school.
Participants said the goal of the walk was to show community support, keep attention on the case and push for changes to prevent similar allegations in the future.
