DOUGLAS COUNTY MORNING NEWS
Forever Wild Wildlife Rescue Announces Permanent Closure

Forever Wild Wildlife Rescue, a nonprofit wildlife rehabilitation organization serving the Umpqua Watershed, has announced it will permanently close and discontinue services effective immediately, according to a statement released by its board of directors.
In a notice signed by board president Bob Bass, the organization said that “in light of recent and unfortunate circumstances it does not appear a prosperous path forward for Forever Wild exists.” The board voted to cease operations, including ending social media activity, shutting down its hotline and discontinuing its group contract with its veterinary provider.
Forever Wild began in 2022 as a volunteer-driven effort focused on rescuing, rehabilitating and returning injured or orphaned wildlife to the wild. The organization said it was unable to grow sufficiently to sustain services into the near future.
The board expressed gratitude to the group’s volunteers for their time and dedication.
Forever Wild Wildlife Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has worked to rehabilitate wildlife in the Umpqua region while also providing education and training related to wildlife care and conservation. More information about the organization is available at https://www.fwwr.org/.
For wildlife rescue needs moving forward, community members can contact Umpqua Wildlife Rescue at (541) 440-6895.
REPRESENTATIVE HOYLE ANNOUNCES OVER $16.5 MILLION FOR 15 PROJECTS

On Sunday, Representative Val Hoyle announced that she has secured more than $16.6 million in federal funding for community projects in Oregon’s 4th Congressional District.
The funds will support 15 projects in Douglas, Benton, Coos, Curry, Lane and Lincoln counties.
Hoyle’s release said for Fiscal Year 2026, each member of Congress could request federal funding for up to 15 community projects on behalf of their district. Last spring kicked off months of work between the Congresswoman’s office and local governments, first responders, schools, ports and other organizations to identify, vet and advance community priority projects. Representative Hoyle advocated for her colleagues to invest in these projects. She also partnered with Senators Merkley and Wyden to move an even broader set of Oregon priorities through the process.
Representative Hoyle said, “These projects came from communities across six counties, and for months I’ve worked with my colleagues on the House Appropriations Committee and our Senators to help carry them forward – from public safety and affordable housing to workforce training to cutting-edge research”. Hoyle said, “I’m looking forward to communities starting to see real investments on the ground – from shovels in dirt to programs getting underway”.
The release said the federal funding will allow communities to make long-overdue investments in fire and police services, water infrastructure, workforce training and affordable housing.
In Douglas County, funds will go to:
- $3.15 million for Umpqua Community College to redevelop a college-owned building into affordable housing for students.
- $800,000 for Glide Revitalization to bring to fruition its vision for a multi-use community facility.
ROSEBURG BUILDINGS TO CLOSE ON WASHINGTON’S BIRTHDAY/PRESIDENTS DAY

City of Roseburg buildings will close next Monday, February 16th for Washington’s Birthday, also known as President’s Day.
A city release said police and firefighters will continue to provide public safety throughout the holiday.
Roseburg City Hall and the Public Safety Center, both on Southeast Douglas Avenue, along with other city owned buildings will not be open to the public. Lobbies in both buildings are normally open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Roseburg Public Library, on Northeast Diamond Lake Boulevard, is normally closed on Sunday and Monday, and is open for varied hours the rest of the week.
The holiday was originally designated for the celebration of the February 22nd birthday of the nation’s first president, George Washington. However, state and local governments often refer to the third Monday in February as “President’s Day”, as a way to honor all U.S. presidents, including Abraham Lincoln, whose birthday is February 12th.

UMPQUA SOIL & WATER DISTRICT/AG TRUST BUSINESS PLANS

Umpqua Soil & Water Conservation District and Oregon Agricultural Trust will present a workshop on Business Plans & Basic Farm Financials on Thursday, March 5th from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The event will be held at Elkton Community Education Center in Elkton.
Information will be provided on how farm business analysis tools such as business plans and farm financial statements can help with decision making and achieving the goals of farmers.
Oregon Agricultural Trust partners with farmers and ranchers to ensure that farm ground stays farming for the benefit of Oregon’s economy, communities and landscapes. One way that is accomplished is by helping advance the farm business conversation.
Organizers say the event will provide great material for smaller or younger farm operators, producers who want to brush up on financial conversations, and/or farms that might be thinking about making some changes that a business plan might help discuss.
The free event includes lunch. Advance registration is needed. Go to: https://www.oregonagtrust.org/events/2026/3/5/business-plans-and-basic-farm-financials. For more information, email: andrea@oregonagtrust.org with questions
