ROSEBURG, Ore. — A 47-year-old Roseburg man was arrested after officers reported a man was assaulted at Stewart Park while sleeping underneath the pavilion.
Officers contacted a man who reported he was assaulted by an unknown male at Stewart Park at about 5:37 a.m. Feb. 27, according to a Roseburg Police Department report.
The man told officers he was sleeping underneath the pavilion when an unknown subject, later identified as Daniel Lee Calvert III, began to scream at him. The man asked Calvert to stop screaming, which officers reported upset him. Officers said Calvert then struck the man in the head with a large stick.
The man sustained a laceration to his head and was later transported to Mercy Medical Center, according to the report.
Officers then drove to Stewart Park and located Calvert underneath the pavilion, the report said. Officers reported Calvert refused to cooperate and started to run. Officers said he grabbed a 3-foot stick and covered himself with a blanket. After a few minutes of talking with Calvert, officers reported he dropped the stick and started to run again. Calvert was subsequently tased and detained in handcuffs, according to the report.
Medical arrived and cleared Calvert from needing further medical attention, police said.
Calvert was lodged at corrections on charges of second-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and second-degree disorderly conduct, according to the report.
