Douglas Forest Protective Association Opens Hiring For 2026 Fire Season

The Douglas Forest Protective Association is now hiring for the 2026 fire season, with seasonal positions available in firefighting, dispatch and wildfire detection.

In a recent recruitment post, DFPA said it is looking to fill several roles, including:

  • Wildland Firefighter
    • Hand crew
    • Engine crew
  • Wildland Fire Dispatcher
  • Wildfire Detection Camera Operator

According to the announcement, applicants must be at least 18 years old by July 1. DFPA said experience is not required for the seasonal positions.

The agency said applications are now open and encouraged those interested to apply online at dfpa.net. DFPA plans to begin reviewing applications in April, followed by interviews in May. Onboarding for the 2026 season is expected to begin in June.

DFPA, which notes it has protected lives, resources and property from wildland fires since 1912, described the positions as an opportunity to become part of that legacy.
