Roseburg Schools To Host Final Early Literacy Night For Young Families March 9
Roseburg Schools will host its final early literacy night March 9 at Rose Elementary for families with children ages 2–4. The free event includes storytelling, hands-on activities and take-home materials for early readers. Registration is required and space is limited.
Roseburg-area families with young children are invited to attend the district’s final early childhood literacy event of the season next month, part of a broader effort to strengthen reading skills before kindergarten.
Roseburg Schools will host “Sounds, Rhythms & Rhymes” on March 9 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at Rose Elementary School, 948 SE Roberts Ave. The free event is designed for families with children ages 2 to 4 and will focus on building early literacy through play-based activities.
Organizers say the evening will include interactive storytelling, hands-on learning stations and simple literacy activities families can continue at home. Space is limited and advance registration is required. The first 20 families who register and attend will receive a take-home materials bag. Families can sign up at: https://forms.gle/7Nex6xxLAPtowdpv7. Light refreshments will be available.
The event is the third and final session in a series supported by a federal literacy grant aimed at strengthening early reading development across the community. Roseburg Schools is one of 30 Oregon districts selected to receive funding through the state’s 2025–2029 Comprehensive Literacy State Development (CLSD) grant, totaling about $1.1 million for the district over the life of the program.
District officials say the funding supports evidence-based reading instruction and early learning efforts, with a focus on helping children build foundational skills before entering kindergarten. The initiative aligns with Oregon’s broader Early Literacy Success Initiative, which aims to improve reading outcomes statewide.
